Olympic champion- turned-federal politician Ross Rebagliati believes one of the most pressing issues facing our nation is fitness and health, particularly among young people.
"People aren't as healthy as they used to be, and for kids, with TV, video games and the Internet, it's hard to get them active," the gold medallist and Liberal MP candidate said during a recent snowboard signing session.

The city of Lafayette and the Ragin' Cajun Amateur Boxing Club, in conjunction with the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, will host the annual Louisiana Golden Gloves amateur boxing championships March 26-28 at the N.P. Moss Middle School Gymnasium.
And the event could be a preview of bigger things to come, according to Ragin' Cajun Club coach and tournament coordinator Beau Williford.

Boxing has taken 17-year-old Ryan Martin a lot of places he had never been before, and next month the Central High School sophomore will be heading to the other side of the world to represent the United States.
But this weekend he'll be doing what he does best in his own school gymnasium.
Martin will be in featured bouts both nights of the 74th annual Chattanooga Golden Gloves tournament.

Adam Lopez expected to have an easy time of it in his bout during Saturday's finals of the San Antonio Regional Golden Gloves tournament at Alzafar Shrine Temple.
Many of his friends from Highlands High School and family members — about 100 in all — were in attendance to watch Lopez put on a show.

Wesley Marquez won his fourth consecutive El Paso Regional Golden Gloves title -- but it took everything he had to earn this trip to Fort Worth.
That bout was one of 16 on the closing day of the 68th annual El Paso Regional Golden Gloves at El Paso Community College's Valle Verde Campus.

Bill Hoar, tournament director for both the Greater Lowell and New England Golden Gloves Tournaments, will be inducted into the National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame in May.
Hoar has run the local Golden Gloves events since 1986, overseeing a region that includes Lowell and three satellite tournaments.
